Intermittent fasting

” Your BODY can stand anything, its your MIND that needs convincing.”

I never in a million years thought I would actually sit down and compose this post. But Hey! Never say never Right? I have been On this intermittent shebang, on and off for like a month. But I have been Killing it extremely over the last week. Yap, Intermittent Fasting on the A lane!. I just fully figured what Intermittent Fasting was on the core and how to actually stay on top of it. And since my previous post Dealing With Weight Gain I have actually lost 2.9 KGs so I could say I know a thing or two on this intermittent fasting. Yeah? Well keep reading…

What is Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is not a diet. Lets have that debate settled before it even started. Intermittent Fasting is a pattern of eating. It’s a way of scheduling your meals so that you get the most out of them. Do note as well, Intermittent fasting doesn’t in any form change what you eat, it changes when you eat. In most cases, you have a small window where you eat and a large window where you go into an Intermittent Fasting. There a couple of Intermittent Fasting out there as broken and summarized below.

Leangains Daily Intermittent Fasting

Just like the name says. This is a Daily 16 hour fast followed by an 8 hour eating period. Leangains intermittent fasting is done every day, so it becomes very easy to get into the habit of eating on this schedule. This is a great method for achieving and maintaining a lean physique AKA Weight loss.

HOW TO DO IT:

• Fast for 16 hours every day (about 8 hours of the fast will take place while you are sleeping.)
• Eat your first meal of the day after the 16-hour fast.
• 8 hours after your first meal, start another 16-hour fast.
• It does not matter when you start the 8-hour feeding period, do what works for you.

Weekly Intermittent Fasting

This Intermittent Fasting is done on the weekly slot. One 24-hour fast each week to be precise. If you’re looking to bulk up or keep weight on, then this is a great option. Since you are only cutting out two meals per week, you can enjoy the many
physiological benefits of fasting without losing weight.

HOW TO DO IT:

• Fast for 24 hours every week (about 8 hours of the fast will take place while you are sleeping.)
• An example would be lunch Having Breakfast on Sunday then going on a 24 hour Intermittent fast till Breakfast on Monday the same time as you previously did.

Alternate Day Intermittent Fasting

Fast for alternating 24-hour periods. This style of intermittent fasting is often used in research studies, but, from
what I have seen, it isn’t very popular in the real world or rather I haven’t encountered people who actually practice this form of intermittent fast per SE.

I personally fall in the Lean gains Daily Intermittent Fasting  Category. I fast for an average of 16 – 18 hours a day and have a window of 6 – 8 hours of eating. Remember people we are talking about the 24 hour slot. So below is how I build my Intermittent Fast eating plan from .

0630 Hours: Detox Water
  • (250 ml) of still water – Room temperature
  • 1 Tsp of Powder Ginger
  • 1 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
  • 1 Tsp of Lemon
0745 Hours  – 0800 Hours: BreakFast
  • 2 Hard Boiled Eggs
  • White Coffee, 3 sugars
  • Variation between 5-6 Glasses of Water before Lunch Time (1.5Litres)

I am doing the egg diet combined with Ketosis (more about this in the near future) at the moment. Otherwise my Breakfast could Vary from the below:

  • Smoothie bowl.
  • Avocado Toast
  • Oats
  • Fruit Salads

0100 Hours – 0200 Hours – One of the Combinations below

  • Green Salad with Chia Seeds
  • Fruit Bowl with Chia seeds and Granola
  • Baked Potatoes, Guacamole and baked veggies
  • Another 5-6 Glasses of Water Before 6

Then my Intermittent Fasting begins. I don’t eat anything between 0200 till 0730 the next day. However I try as much as possible to stay hydrated and the 3 liters a day keep me on my toes. Also note that I go for a 6 KM run every Monday,Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays.

In my opinion, This Intermittent Fasting has played a key in my weight loss journey. It can be quite hard in the beginning I will be very honest because, you are restricting your body from something it has been doing naturally. But like the quote, “Your BODY can stand anything, its your MIND that needs convincing.” The same can apply.

Have you ever tried Intermittent Fasting? what are your thoughts? Curious? Lets have a discussion below.
