Hey Friends,
Its been a while. Hoping you all have been well and are keeping safe.
I got a quick inspiration and decide to share a blog post about it. I hope this answers the majority of questions I get on my interior Design page on Instagram. How to Create a Cozy Bedroom. I know the dilemma because trust me I was you about 4 years back. We thank God for progress because if this is post doesn’t prove my development I don’t know what else is.
I was the girl who was always up on Pinterest saving rooms into a wishful mood board and wondered why the heck mine looked so bland and tasteless.
Each time I would ask myself? What was I doing wrong? I came to a sad realization that maybe it was a money thing. Little did I know that money can’t buy you class, talk about young and clueless.
Hey, a girl needed some explanation so please don’t roll your eyes and dismiss me just yet.
These questions of a curious 22/23-year-old gave birth to a creative side of me that I never knew existed. That friends is where my love and journey of interior design seeds were grown and Frankly, I’ve grown since creatively and as an individual.
Over the years I finally understood what it took to make your bedroom look Cozy. Today’s focus is on the bedroom but I generally use these points in all the rooms in my apartment. The key principle that guides me in interior design is a combination of Style & Function. The same can be used while decorating your bedroom, A Blend of Comfort, Zen & Functionality. ⠀
Let’s get started with how a Cozy Bedroom Comes to Play
When it comes to making your bedroom a cozy oasis, it doesn’t need to cost a fortune to add major comfort. To start off, you need some inspiration of some sort and that’s what Pinterest is for and a great eye for details. Before you say this eye thing is harder to achieve, trust me, its something that you can train yourself. A lot of learning needs to happen alongside a lot of trial and error and after a while, it all becomes second nature. If you fancy learning further, I would recommend some classes on Skillshare, and a few YouTubers that I admire their works, Living to DIY with Rachel Metz, Mr Kate, The Sorry Girls, Alexandra Grates, Lone Fox – Just to mention but a few.
How about we stop oozing & wishing upon Pinterest room goals and start creating one of our own with these 10 easy steps?
Sounds like fun right? Let’s get into it.
Here is what I’ve learned over the years on how to make a Bedroom both Cozy & Functional was while Serving Aesthetics.⠀
10 Tips On How To Create a Cozy Bedroom⠀
COLORS: –
Have a color palette in mind & stick to it, a Minimum of 3 a maximum of 5. The topic of colors is broad and can easily become a blog post on its own. If you have no clue where to start, Here is a Quick & Easy Breakdown for reference
⠀
60% Main Color
This then becomes your Dominant color takes 60% of the room eg use it on your Walls, Accent Pieces or and Rugs, etc.
Example White⠀
⠀
30% Secondary Color
This should be a secondary Color or texture & it can be found on Furniture like the Armchair, Ottoman Or sofa 🛋 \
Example Beige or Gray⠀
10% Accent or pop of color
Lastly, an Accent Color – The Throw pillow, vases, plants) This becomes pop of colors in a neutral space or complimentary in a colorful room.⠀
With colors explained, here are two working scenarios.
1. If you have a Small bedroom Paint it white to give it an illusion of a larger room.⠀
⠀
2. If you have a Medium to larger room, Play around with colors, try doing an Accent wall.
THROW
3. To create a cozy Vibe, You need to invest in throw blankets, you can never have 2 many – I am laying a duvet and 2 throws atm. For a Cozier vibe get a faux fur that will take you from lazy weekend nap to hibernation status in the blink of an eye.
4. A comfy bed starts with a great Mattress, it should support your body to get you a great night’s sleep. ⠀
– With that said, it goes without saying PILLOWS!! Have as many as you can, 4 rectangular ones, one big square, and a couple throw for start. ⠀
– Have fun playing around with different patterns, don’t go too matchy matchy unless you are going for a hotel vibe ⠀
The more the better when it comes to creating a super-comfy look.
RUGS⠀
5. They tend to ground your space & introduce warmth into a room while adding in a pop of color & texture. Try layering rugs for a unique cozy vibe.⠀
LIGHTS⠀
6. This needed to be point no 1. I have however said it so much I’m beginning to sound like a broken record. Invest in Soft warm lights. For the love of interior design stay away from Florescent lights.⠀Another great option is using some candles, they will act as a decorative piece while serving a function.⠀This can be on the bedside stand.
HEADBOARD⠀
7. If you are above 25, your bed needs a Headboard no discussions. Jk I’m kidding but am I really? 😈 They don’t need to expensive or traditional.⠀
PLANTS
8. Inject some life into your cozy space with some greenery or fresh flowers. This brings in some fresh ambiance into your room.⠀
⠀
9. Add in your personality in the room while playing around your color patterns. This could be a personal picture or a DIY piece, whatever that floats your boat⠀⠀
CURTAINS
10. A great room is tied in together with great curtains. If your room still looks off, try changing your curtains & the light and see how dramatic of a change it brings. – Invest in a good pair or 2⠀
⠀
Last, it goes without saying, KEEP YOUR ROOM CLEAN, NEAT & ORGANIZED. That’s the only way to make the above points work ⠀
⠀
Hope this was helpful, feel free to save it so you can always come back to it later.⠀
⠀
Have a lovely Weekend 🖤
