A Guy’s Guide to Accessorizing: 12 Pro Tips

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

“Guys don’t need a lot of Choices they just need the right choices.”

Quick question before we start. When is the exact day, where its a little odd wishing someone a Happy New year? Hopefully not today though. Low-key I feel like it its. Anyways, here goes, Happy New year to my Male Readers. See now that I have kept it on that line, it’s not so Odd-ish or is it? This being the first column for the guys this year, I thought we could start with some good old basics. A Guy’s Guide to Accessorizing. Yes, John, Guys do accessorize as well. No am not talking about the 2 chains and swag overload kind of accessorizing Because let’s be honest, there is more to accessorizing than and in today’s post, A Guy’s Guide to Accessorizing I will show you that and more.

Here is why accessorizing is Key. While for girls an accessory can just be that an accessory. For guys, well not so Much. An accessory does say a lot about you without even noticing. This is why a little effort can definitely takes you a long way. From the casual bits, to the Formal must-haves and the extras, here is…

A Guy’s Guide to Accessorizing

1. Back to Basics:

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

The Sunglasses! any guy, beginner or a fashion pro can totally guess this right of the bat. This is an international Guy accessory. However, this doesn’t mean you can pick any sunglass and call it a day. Any stylish and confident guy knows they look good, with or without some sunglasses and they also know the time and place for sunglasses. Take notes on your face as that will determine what type of sunnies to get. Invest in a cool statement pair this year, that can be worn over and over while leaving you mysterious, edgy and insanely Fashionable. No don’t wear them at night, It doesn’t work that way.

2. Time Piece.

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

The tale as old as time. A fashion frenzy guy (I really love the Fashion Frenzy bit) knows this and please do take notes if you are new. A watch can make or break your outfit. PERIOD! And yes there is a watch for every outfit. For guys, you have it easy. You don’t need to own a watch in every color to match your manicured hands. All you need are honestly 4 types of watches, 6 if we are being extra. You need a Classic silver and a classic golden watch. That’s two. Then you need a brown leather and a black leather watch. the latter can have golden accents or silver accents depending on your taste, hence, The 6 types if you are being extra. If you are the type that only wears Gold, you can do away with Silvers and vice versa. I recently Partnered with Daniel Wellington they have amazing Classic Pieces and for some unique touches, head over to Wood watches by Jord. Feeling the beat? How about some Rolex?

3. Hats

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but sometimes you have to drink Tequila. Okay that doesn’t even make sense. That’s exactly how people without hats see people with hats. For all those Fashion frenzy guys out there that can rock a good old Hat, Well good for you. Honestly, if you can rock hats, this could be one of the best accessories to own, or maybe because am pro hats IDK!… But a good Hat is what can set you apart from the rest or better yet, get you a signature look. There are a variety of hats men can wear to show off their personalities and styles! You just gotta find the right one and flaunt it with the right outfit!

4. The Necklace

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

Been a long time coming. If you are just beginning, my take would be start small. And no, you don’t have to wear all the chains you own at a go. Well unless you are two chains or in a rap video or a male model, in that case, good for you. A single mid-thick statement chain is a good starting point, as this can be worn as a smart casual accent or fully casual. No it’s not a Formal accessory, so the next time you have a business meeting or a weeding, leave this at home. After you are feeling confident about it, you could opt for a masculine pendant like a cross, a moon, a skull (This never makes a lot of sense) or a guitar. If you have to wear more than one, play around with balance and they have to look-alike in terms of “the same tone”

Also for the love of fashion, please don’t flaunt around in those copper-like Chain, it’s so Tacky and makes your entire look go from expensive to trashy real quick.

5. A Bracelet

Another million dollar investment. A good Bracelet can take you anywhere. Yes, depending on a style it can also pass as a formal accessory. This only applies if it happens to compliment your watch and in most cases, worn together with the watches. (See inspiration above.) The next time you are rocking your short-sleeved shirt or a rolled up long sleeve, have a classic statement piece on your hand do all the talking. It’s the little things and yes Girls do notice.

6. The Ring

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

Okay, I will approach this a little sensitively. This is a half full or half empty kind of point. And its okay to agree to disagree. Except this one time, one of my ex bluntly said, guys that wear rings are Gay! Now I know why I broke up with his Ass. Personally, I like a guy that can wear and own the ring look. Not too much that its blinding, but just a few to stand out. It’s all about the balance with this. Also, do your research. A ring on each finger signifies some form of meaning. So don’t just JUMP on it blindly.

7. The formal must-Haves

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

This is the gentlemen package. Am talking about the Tie, the Tie clip, the Cufflinks and the Pocket square. They are in a package for a reason. Because the items in this package do after all compliment one another. The pocket square doesn’t have to match the tie, but it sure as hell needs to compliment it. When it comes to the Cufflinks, if you are going for the golden accent, then you tie clip (if any) should match your  golden accents alongside the buckle of your belt, the loops of your shoe laces and your watch. It’s that kind of details that will make or break your look.

8. If you’re a bag kinda guy, this is for you

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

If you like bags, you definitely don’t have to buy 20 bags like some of us women do. I’d suggest maybe two or three maximum that you use every now and then! If used well, this is something that will definitely be noticed by people. It’s subtle, but it still makes a huge difference! Remember the starting basic? No, well get a brown leather bag and a black leather bag, then work your way from there.

9. Belts & Suspenders

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

Match your belt and your shoes on a formal occasion. Belt rules are different for everyday style. First off, wearing slimmer pants means you have to wear your real waist size, and if that’s the case a belt is optional and not necessary for holding up your pants. On the other hand, you can add some fun to your outfit by wearing a canvas/leather belt with the right color that will fit your outfit. Also, keep in mind that your “belt size” is about two to three inches larger than your waist size, so when you buy one be aware of that, and definitely try it on. For raw denim fans, getting a thick belt in an un-tanned natural leather is an ideal accessory, as it will age and get more comfortable like your jeans. Start with a Black and Brown leather and have them in gold and silver accents, the End.

The same goes for suspenders, remember, when it comes to belts and suspenders. You can only wear one or the other but never both.

10. Socks

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

Keep thin socks for your everyday shoes, standard socks for your sneakers, and thicker socks for your boots. Don’t go overboard with very bright socks either. Well unless that’s the look you go for, then have at it. If you choose to rock socks with a little pop, keep the outfit chill so the socks can grab attention. If you already have some color going on, wear socks with a subtle color, but add some variety with a funky pattern like polka dots or stripes. You can also achieve the sock-less look without worrying about stinking up your kicks with a pair of low-cut socks.

11. Shoes

A Guy's Guide to Accessorizing

For purposes of fashion, footwear can double as an accessory. The first concept to understand about footwear is that black does not go with everything. Many men will have one pair of dress shoes and wear it with every dressy or casual outfit they put on. That’s just awful and bloody wrong. It’s okay to push the envelope with your shoes. One can own more than just black and brown which are the basic foundation. The sport shoes or sneakers is becoming more and more acceptable, so don’t be shy to add that into the mix. As it plays a lot when it comes to the casual outfit.

12. Extras

Remember how I told you guys also own a lot of accessories? well this point will summarise it all up. This has more or less to do with personal tastes and personality, as its not necessarily to have it all(Except for wallet which plays along the same rules of the belt) Just to mention without any priorities whatsoever, The extras include: A Classic wallet, statement perfume, Pocket pens, Money Clips, Key Chains, Pocket knives, handkerchief, and the rest that I might have skipped.

There you have it, My Fashion Frenzies guys, my take on A Guy’s Guide to Accessorizing. Hope you found this 12 tips helpful. Is there something you think fits the profile?
