“A Goal without Hardwork is Merely a wish.”
Happy New Year!
Yes, I totally am off with the whole greetings, it being 22nd and all. Hear me out, this is my first written post for 2020 so it felt a little weird starting this without wishing you all compliments of the season. Funny thing is exactly a year today I posted my most viral post from last year; How to Make a Vision Board that Works which was exactly like the one that I am going to chat with you today
MY VISION BOARD TURNED INTO A REALITY
The most amazing thing is that when I made my last year’s Vision Board there were so many things that I kept up that I did not wholeheartedly believe they could come true let alone come true in the span of a year. I will give you an example of something semi Minor. At the beginning of last year, I had the iPhone SE with me and I loved it to bits. I had the iPhone X Max, upon the vision board – This was around the time where I got a chance to play around with my best friend’s phone.
I wanted the phone so bad – mind you, it was realized about 2 months already. So I shot my shot to the universe and did the universe provide… I went from an iPhone SE (Dying on me – because why not) to an iPhone 7 and about 3 weeks in, I had my baby with me. I was beyond excited… As if that was not enough, about 6 months later I was able to trade my iPhone X, Max, for an iPhone 11 Pro Max...
I SURPASSED MY VISION BOARD GOALS
This was one of the many Visions that became a reality for me. Just to give you a couple more ideas. I had Youtube up on my board because I took about a year and a half or so break and I was inclined to get back. Got to even share my two cents and then some on where I have been. – Getting back on Youtube was the vision on my board, but what happened was I was able to upgrade my entire Home studio. I am talking about Camera (Got the canon 80D from my old 700D) I got new studio lights plus the ring light – which has been on my mind for way too long. Mics – yes plural and got 2 lenses; a 50mm & a 22 -70 mm (this one I am the legal baby sister)
Don’t get me started with my Fitness!! 2019 was the year that my fitness goals manifested!! I have NEVER EVER run in my entire life combined like I did last year. You guessed it, I did run 2 half marathons. I joined the Gym like did the weights and everything and an actual gym AB even showed up, and not even to toot my own horn, I was body goals for a second there, I mean Check out thus Best Booty Workout – For beginners. I ate right for at least half of the year maybe some but that’s a story for another time. This is one of my many highlights from my resolutions last year.
Don’t
OKAY STOP!!
I definitely was saving the best for last. I got myself a FREAKEN CAR!! it wasn’t the Nissan Murano I had pined on my vision board but a car regardless and I got it on my freaken birthday!! Ahhh the inner child in me is screaming and doing a twerk routine. With these few highlights, I hope you can totally understand me when I tell you I am OBSESSED with making vision boards and relieving and checking everything off my last year’s Vision board is something that I don’t take easily, I am beyond blessed and honestly, I did not deserve this.
WHAT IS A VISION BOARD
Let’s start by defining a Vision Board; a collage of images, numbers, words & Quotes representing a person’s wishes, goals, manifestations intended to serve as inspiration, aspiration or motivation. Here is one thing you need to understand, if all you are thinking is pinning a bunch of aesthetic pleasing collages of images on the wall and going to bed without an actual hustle behind this, nothing will come your way. This is merely a wish-board and we all know wishes do. come true if you live in fairytale land. This is meant to act as a constant reminder for what you need to focus on and work hard to achieve for the year.
HOW TO MAKE A VISION BOARD
1.KNOW THE DIRECTION OF YOUR VISION BOARD – DIGITAL/ PHYSICAL
I took a separate approach this year. I have always done a physical vision board and the whole task of sorting and cutting to full dimension has been nothing short of satisfaction for me. However, things in 2020 started with me hitting the ground running. I couldn’t find the time to even print let alone sit and do sticky it up on the board. So my lazy busy self led me to find a hack I never knew I was missing. Introducing to you Digital Vision boards. This can either be done through Adobe Illustrator or Canva.
I did one on canvas, things to note, Make sure you note your dimension beforehand, that way the printing reflects the size you wanted. I wanted mine to scream at me every morning and I did an A1 with the following Dimensions: 84 W by 59 L
2. HAVE YOUR WORD (S) OF THE YEAR
This can be anything from one word to a full sentence. These words should act like pillars to guide you through the whole year. I went with words for a change. I chose 3 and these will then reflect on all aspects of my 2020. The words that spoke volumes to me are Authenticity, Balance & Growth. This can either be informed of an illustration or an actual BOLD word that will scream on your Face. – Last year I went with a statement, “Career & passion coming together.”
3. NOTE DOWN YOUR GOALS
Stealing this from last year’s post. This is where you let your creativity wander. Ideas drawn from here is what may make or break your Vision Board. For this to actually work, Whatever goals you list, make sure they are in line with the SMART system. What the hell is a SMART system, well I thought you would never ask.
-
Specific Goals
Set goals that a specific. It helps when you can answer the questions What, when, why, who when backed against your goals.
- Measurable
Each SMART goal has a starting point as well as a finishing point and they are indications of the quality of the effort to be made. Remember to benchmark your goals. Don’t just say I need to save money, say I need to save 50k by the end of the 2nd quatre. There you have a lot more to work with than the blank “I wanna save money”
- Achievable
This is where you have to rethink the out of the world ideas. You want to be a millionaire, sounds like a plan but a more realistic goal would be going to school, starting a business. – This then clears a path for your millionaire dream. Goals with a road map are easier to achieve than the ones with a shoot for the stars’ mentality.
- Realistic
A realistic goal takes into account the practical situation and the work in which is involved. You want to lose 50Kg but never workout a day in your life and eats everything on sight? Does this look realistic Suzan? Something realistic would be losing 10kgs then answering the question HOW? (Specific remember) by drinking a lot of water, by walking more often, by incorporating 15 mins workout, by eating fewer takeouts… Hoes that for realistic.
- Time-Bound
This is often confused with measurable, but there is a clear difference between the two. Time-bound is actually about the time that is allocated to reach the goal.
4. FIND INSPIRATIONS
This is where the fun part begins. If you are going through the physical route you could opt for magazine cut out of source images from Etsy and Pinterest, printing them out then get creative. Since I did the digital route, the only thing I needed was space on my hard drive and saved all the images and quotes that spoke volumes to me.
5. PIN YOUR VISION BOARD
After sorting out all the images, quotes and words for your vision. Get creative by either gluing them to the board, pinning them to a corkboard or placing them on your blank page and arrange them in a way that appeals to you and your vision. After you are fully satisfied with your making. Its time to print and Frame it – for the digital doers or simply mounting it up on a wall. The Vision Board needs to hung in a place that’s easy to see so you are constantly reminded of your goals.
6. HUSTLE & REVIEW YOUR VISION BOARD CONSTANTLY
The easy part was making the mood board. I kid you not. Hang the Vision Board & Its time to put the work. Hustle like you never hard to attain the goals. Unless you live under the rock, all that hustle needs to be backed up by prayers. As you pray believe it in your heart that you have totally received it. That’s the only way you get to see your visions manifested into a reality.
That’s all from my corner folks!! Thank you so much for indulging me and my little corner. I hope this post inspired you to make your own own vision board so come to the end of the year, you get to go through ticking all the many goals and visions that your hard work brought to reality.
Till then, have a Fab & Successful 2020!
