This is how I felt when I saw the Biker shorts Trend making its way in street fashion in early 2018. I was shocked and I was sure it was one of those trendy things that if I ignored LONG enough, It would definitely go away. Little did I know that this ’80’s Inspired or ’90’s Inspired (Neon era) depending on which era You relate the most with, was here to stay, 2 years later. I wasn’t sure this style was for me, it seemed a little on the odd end. That was before I found myself ordering the same kind of biker shorts in a row. – Okay, am getting ahead of myself. – Let’s backtrack a little bit.

Just like the quote, Fashion is like eating. You can’t stick to the same menu.” I decided to give this trend a chance. Dear God!! Best decision of my life. From a rising trend to a full wardrobe staple, there a million reasons why I fell in love with the Biker Short Trend. I have been enjoying the athleisure trend a lot, so having a fun summer option twist was just a gift from the fashion Gods!! Am living for this entire look. I even loved it more after perfecting the look. In all honesty, I may have perfected it a little too well that I ended up making a video. – Yup, send help.

How to Style Biker Shorts. – A Street Style Casual Inspiration

1. Athleisure on the Go.

It only makes sense this is the first point. Being a Street style casual inspiration and all. If you are just starting out this trend, the easiest way is to pair your biker short with an athleisure trend. Trust me you can never EVER go wrong with this. From a tee to a crop top and an oversized blazer. These are just a number of ways to style your biker short. Pair your entire look with some killer sneakers and a show-stopper fanny pack and go stunt in the streets, because honey, I may not see you but with this tip, I know you are killing this look. – Like I said it is that easy.

2. Monochromatic is the way to go.

Nothing says style maverick like a monochromatic look. Get your biker short to match or at least fly in the same colour family as your top. This will make the look more intentional and put together and giving you more style points. I styled my black biker shorts with a black crop top, because, A: Black is slimming and B: that’s the end of the story, on the real though, you can never go wrong with Black.

3. Layer your Outfit.

Take your style game up a notch by layering the 3rd piece into your biker short puzzle. From throwing a denim jacket like I did to pair it with a plaid shirt, the choices are endless. 4. Accessories.

You clearly are a new reader at the table if you never saw this point coming your way. I am officially the self-proclaimed queen of accessorizing. Think of this as the finishing touch to your perfect look. From a fanny pack to a killer fanny pack or a show-stopping head-piece. Show your style game with these accessories. Dare to be bold. 5. Pair your High & Low ends.

Achieve a very sophisticated look by doing the least amount of effort. Taking a page from the Model’s Off-Duty. Pair up your low-end looks with high street accessories. A simple pair of designer heel will take you from nada to Prada in two seconds. So take note, use your accessories to elevate your looks. A good statement Necklace can give your look a luxe feel and also play as a focal point for the entire outfit.

This tip has been used and abused in the fashion industry. If you don’t believe, think of your favourite fashion bloggers, Celebrities or what have you. Sometimes all they are wearing is an oversized sweater and some killer heels or ripped denim and some Gucci slides, some killer sunnies and tied hair in a messy bun, leaving us drooling, wondering how they get to look gorgeous with the least amount of effort. – #YouareWelcome

BONUS TIP: How to DIY Biker Shorts for Less

As promised, I will share how You can jump on this trend without even breaking the bank. All you need is a pair of scissors, one of your old legging and a tape measure or ruler. Wear the leggings, find the length you are comfortable to wear, add extra 2 cms and mark it with a marker or chalk and measure the same distance on the other side and do the same. After you have marked the leggings, take it off and cut it with the pair of scissors. When you wear it, tuck in the extra 2 CMs we left to give it a seamless finished. Just like Magic, You’ll have yourself a Biker short for less.
