How to Wear a Jumpsuit – Secrets of a Stylist
1. Size – The Perfect Fit Matters.
The misconception between the one size fits all when it comes to jumpsuit will live you looking like a hot mess. Trust me, I know. When it comes on How to Wear a Jumpsuit, make sure you get a size that fits you correctly. Unless its meant to look baggy from head to toe, then by all means. But if it’s a wide leg, make sure the flow of the jumpsuit Is proportional to your body and this is where size matter. I have shared a lot of my stylist tips on How to style wide legged pants. Don’t go for a size too small, unless its meant to be a bodycon, let Catwoman have that for the win.
Additionally, the leg length is very important, don’t make it a culotte jumpsuit unless it’s an actual culotte jumpsuit. Otherwise, you will end up looking like a hot mess. If you are caught up with a culotte style struggle, see my How to Wear Culottes: Street Style Edition.
Remember,
“No matter how good your jumpsuits look or how costly it is, if the jumpsuit doesn’t fit you properly, you are going to look disastrous in it. So, finding a jumpsuit that fits you well is essential for looking perfect.”
2. Accentuate your body
This should have been the first on How to Wear a Jumpsuit. Accentuate your body part with your outfit. Jumpsuits are always designed to showcase or accentuate one body part, use that. Culottes for the legs, open back for the back, 2 pieces for the waist and so on and so forth. If you love a jumpsuit but it doesn’t seem to accentuate any body part? Well, they are quick fixes to this.
- Pair it with a belt to achieve the hourglass look.
- Style or pair it with a third piece –blazer, jacket or a throw on to give the model-off-duty vibe.
- Tuck it with boots to show off your legs for days.
3. Accessories
It wouldn’t be a complete How to Wear a Jumpsuit post if I did not drop my wisdom on accessorizing as the icing of the post. The key part of accessorising a jumpsuit comes down to balance. A jumpsuit on it’s on is a stunner, (Exhibit A: the jumpsuit am wearing.) In other occasions, a few accessories can elevate your look and give you a style notch. Sometimes all you need is a dainty chain or two piece chain like how I did and I was on my merry way. Ha! But really the hat is now part of my body, it goes everywhere with me. Throw in your statement handbag and some glasses and be on your merry way for real this time.
4. Neutrals are your best friend
If you’re a jumpsuit virgin ease into it slowly and wear neutral colors. Black, grey or white jumpsuit is a good starting point. If you’re daring, wear colored solids, like navy, blush, burgundy, or olive-green. But Black is always a good choice, my go-to and a slimming choice since it’s one unbroken vertical line the eye moves easily up and down without interruption. Once you feel comfortable in a black or white jumpsuit experiment by adding some pattern or splashes of colors.
Pro tip: Solid colors tend to look more put together while patterns, blocks, and floral radiate a more give off a casual vibe
5. A Jumpsuit with a Twist
Before you raise your eyebrows, let me explain. A jumpsuit with a twist is the cooler stylish sister of an ordinary one-piece jumpsuit. That did not help! Okay, let’s just call I mean it’s a jumpsuit on style steroids. There fixed it! So if you want to stand out with a jumpsuit, go for one that’s LOUD IN DESIGN. I loved my Ruffled Jumpsuit it’s not anything I have ever seen in a jumpsuit and the raffles are both playful and stylish. There are a couple of other unique jumpsuits out there, see the shop my style for anything that will catch your eye.
Recap
I wore this jumpsuit the other weekend for my cousin’s birthday brunch. Totally loved the fact that she opted for the black color dress code. Because I will stop wearing black if they made a darker color. Paired this ruffled jumpsuit with some black suede stilettos. I wanted the black shoes to elongate my body and give me an extra 6 inches. I have to say; mission accomplished.
The hat has made several appearances on the blog as seen on Brunch Sundays, Friends & Merry Laughter.
Truth be told, it won’t be the last. I honestly, enjoy the glare I get every time I wear it. I’m not sure if it shock or love hidden behind the look (and stares), but I will take it all.
I had a brunette pixie cut underneath my hat to tie up my look and had my make up did to a nude neutral so that my outfit was not shadowed. Details for my look will be linked down below and on my shop my look page on my menu. Since I still have you,
