” A Sunday well spent brings a week of Content.”
Hey guys,
Long time no chit-chat. I know! I know… The last time we touched base was when I was celebrating my 3 years Blogversary Funny, how I upped and left immediately after. But life man!! I don’t know, it catches up on you and Boom! I have been running ever since. This is why Meal Prepping is so vital for me. Because it allows me the space to stay healthy even on my busiest of busy days. Meal Prepping is one of those things we like or hate. If you are reading this, well am sure you are on the like side of the spectrum and I applaud you for it.
I joined the Meal Prepping wagon around September October last year and it changed my life for the better. If you are interested then you are in luck because I am here to help you understand it all. Take your notes out my darlings, because this is about to be a long ass Post. Ladies & Gentlemen,
Meal Prepping – A Complete Beginner’s Guide
1. Opt for a Meal Prepping Method
When it comes to meal prepping, there are basically 2 ways that are common. Each has its own advantage and takers. I will quickly run you through both to get you a great understanding.
-
Batch Cooking
This is the type of meal prepping where cooking is done in advance. Just as the name suggests, You cook all your meals at a go, freeze and forget it. Okay, not forget it, but microwave whenever. Depending on the size of your family, it can be done once a week or twice. Pick your poison. This method works for bigger meals like Lunch & dinners
– I have been hanging out a lot on the IGTV and I have shared my BTS of Meal prepping, so it’s no surprise that I personally gravitate towards, this method, I live alone, so I need the quicker and easier way out.

Make Ahead
This is a meal prepping method focused on ingredients. As the name suggests, you take time to prepare the ingredients for your meals. This could be anything from marinating your meat to freezing your fruit portions for your smoothies
2. Schedule your Meal Preps and stay consistent.
If you want to ace the whole meal prepping lifestyle, you ought to have specific times set aside, dedicated to your meal preps. This way it becomes habitual over time. I find Sundays easier for me to meal prep and unwind. I know that’s 2 hours a week dedicated to making something that is healthy and will get me through the day.
3. Take stock and shop before time.
This is something that happens before the meal prepping. Plan what you want to eat for the meal, research the recipe and its ingredients and make sure you shop before. I try to shop the early in the morning on the same day to get the freshest produce or when I am swamped I will shop the day before and freeze everything till I meal prep the next day. This goes along the same lines of using the old produce before they go bad.
4. Meal Prepping
After you have figured out your meal for the week, the next step is prepping. This will vary between meals. Point to consider is trying to max your time. If the meals take the same amount of time to be cooked, batch them together in an oven and move to the next item. Begin with the most complex food and work your way down to simpler meals.
5. Storage
This is what will make or break your meal prepping process. When it comes to storage, a little investment goes a long way. If you can afford it, get glass containers. They are durable and they don’t transfer food odour – especially if you season your food. Whatever the budget count is for you, make sure your food storage containers are airtight.
There you have it, I hope these tips gave you an easy understanding of how meal prepping works, for a beginners perspective. Let me know what you thought about it and are you a Meal Prepper? Yes, it’s an actual thing.
